FUK TARD’S (Almost) ANNUAL BIRTHDAY HASH 2020

For those of you interested in joining our Watamu Wild Weekend (W3) February 28, 29 and March 1, 2020.

Transport

From Nairobi the following airlines all fly to Malindi (preferred) and Mombasa;

  • Fly 540
  • Jambo Jet
  • KQ

Depending on the dates, we can have the driver pick up people who decide to go through Mombasa. It is a 21⁄2 + hour drive from Mombasa to Watamu and count on at least 5-7 K for taxi. OR, perhaps the Mombasa Hashers can offer a lift?

Accommodation

Accommodation is widely available depending on your pocket.

Baraka House – http://www.discoverwatamu.com/baraka.html – is a private 6 bedroom house on a secluded part of Watamu Beach just opposite the Coral Garden (for snorkelling enthusiasts). It can be rented for 25,000 KES per day with staff but self-catering.

Barracuda Resort is offering Kshs. 7000 B & B Double Sharing; 4500 KES single. It is beautiful, the staff is super friendly and it close to the little area we call ‘town’ where you can shop for essentials and souvenirs. It is also right on the beach. Here’s their website, check it out – http://www.barracuda- inn.com/ Book directly at barracudahotel@gmail.com

There are also a number of AirBnBs in Watamu.

Itinerary

Friday, February 28

Arrival – Drinks on the beach (BYOB). Bring and Braai. (There are several supermarkets and nice butcheries in town. If we can find my goats (the herder seems to have run away!), mbuzi choma could be involved. It is informal, feel free to bring your music, swimsuits and whatever else floats your boat while on the beach. There is a huge cooler available so your drinks will be cold. Heck, we may even find some ice! Chairs and tables also provided. Bring your own snacks, etc. (PS—depending upon the tides, this might be held on my catamaran).

Saturday Morning at 10ish

Run. Location TBA but will likely highlight Watamu’s beautiful beaches.

Watamu is hot. http://kenyawebcam.com/cam.pl?cam=watamucam Both in the temperature sense and in the beauty sense. It can be humid. Carry sunscreen and hats. Water will be provided at stops. Transport will be provided from your hotel.

Saturday Afternoon at 1530 – Dhow Cruise along Mida Creek. Meet first at Turtle Bay Beach Resort for drinks. The cost is Kshs. 4,800 per person (will have to add a little more for Watamu Marine Park fees depending on nationality & residency). The Kshs. 4,500 includes all you can drink, snacks and full dinner including lobster and prawns. If we leave early enough we can catch the sunset and flamingos. The Circle will be on the Dhow. Here is a link for Mida Creek http://www.watamu.biz/watamu- attractions.php?cid=42

Sunday Morning – Dolphin Safari through Watamu Marine Park guided by dolphin researchers from Watamu Marine Association.

The cost is about Kshs. 1,500 per person. There is also a national park fee involved depending on nationality. Followed by optional lunch at a beautiful beach resort to be determined.

OR, if less than 8, Fuk Tard may even take some Hashers sailing on CassandravillE (@sailingcassandraville).

Most flights out of Malindi leave on Sunday afternoon. The Mombasa flights may leave earlier. Again this depends on the dates decided on.
